In 2007, Community of Love Lutheran Church of Oxford, PA received a gift from the estate of two longtime members, Charlie and Peg (C.A.P.) Middleton. From their generosity, the Hearts in Action Endowment Fund was established. Charlie and Peg were strong advocates for higher education, and when they bequeathed this endowment, they expressed their hope that it would be used—at least in part—to support scholarships for local students preparing for careers of service to the community.

From 2009 to 2021, sixty‑five C.A.P. Scholarships were awarded in fulfillment of their vision. In 2026, following the Holy Closure of Community of Love, the endowment was transferred to St. Michael Lutheran Church.
